Overview
SKD11 (AISI D2) is a cold-work tool steel with about 12% chromium. Hardened to HRC 55–62 it offers excellent wear resistance and dimensional stability.
It is the standard steel for punches, dies, shear blades and forming tools.
Key Properties
Typical values from the MatWeb datasheet for Bohler-Uddeholm AISI D2 Cold Work Tool Steel. Machined parts take the properties of the stock they are cut from.
| Property | Value |
|---|---|
| Density | 7.67 g/cm³ |
| Hardness | HB 210 |
| Modulus of elasticity | 209.9 GPa |
| Thermal conductivity | 20 W/m-K |
Typical Applications
- Punches and dies
- Shear and slitting blades
- Forming and trimming tools
- Wear-resistant mold inserts
Machining Notes
Hardened SKD11 (HRC 55+) is very slow to cut; where possible we rough in the annealed state, heat treat, then finish. Datasheet hardness is soft annealed.
