Overview
420 is a hardenable martensitic stainless steel valued for high hardness and wear resistance: after heat treatment it reaches roughly 50 HRC — far above austenitic 316L — while retaining moderate corrosion resistance.
It is the choice for tooling, mold inserts, cutting edges and wear parts where surface hardness and abrasion resistance outrank ductility. Powder is sourced from certified suppliers with per-batch chemistry and particle-size certification.
Key Properties
Typical datasheet values; printed parts are anisotropic and XY-direction values are shown unless noted.
| Property | Value |
|---|---|
| Tensile strength | 200–230 ksi(約 1380–1585 MPa,硬化後) |
| Yield strength | 185–200 ksi(約 1275–1380 MPa) |
| Elongation at break | 2–8 % |
| Hardness | 48–52 HRC(淬火+回火) |
| Layer resolution | 20 / 30 µm |
Typical Applications
- Mold and die inserts
- Cutting tools and blades
- Wear-resistant components
- Surgical and dental instruments
Printing & Handling Notes
Printed parts are heat-treated (harden + temper) to develop full hardness; hardness and ductility trade off with tempering temperature. Choose 316L instead when corrosion resistance and ductility matter more than hardness.
