Overview
5052 is a magnesium-alloyed, non-heat-treatable aluminum best known for its corrosion resistance in marine and humid environments and its excellent formability.
It is weaker than 6061 and 7075, so it suits covers, panels and housings more than highly loaded structural parts.
Key Properties
Typical values from the MatWeb datasheet for Aluminum 5052-H32. Machined parts take the properties of the stock they are cut from.
| Property | Value |
|---|---|
| Density | 2.68 g/cm³ |
| Tensile strength | 228 MPa |
| Yield strength | 193 MPa |
| Elongation at break | 12 % |
| Hardness | HB 60 |
| Modulus of elasticity | 70.3 GPa |
| Thermal conductivity | 138 W/m-K |
| Melting range | 607.2–649 °C |
Typical Applications
- Marine hardware and covers
- Enclosures and panels
- Fuel and fluid tanks
- Parts that will also be bent or formed
Machining Notes
Softer and gummier than 6061 — expect slightly longer cycle times for fine finishes; sharp tools and good chip evacuation help.
