Overview
ABS is an inexpensive, impact-resistant thermoplastic that machines easily and can be painted or bonded. For higher heat or impact demands we can also machine polycarbonate (PC).
Datasheet values are for extruded ABS sheet, the stock used for machined panels and enclosures.
Key Properties
Typical values from the MatWeb datasheet for Marco Polo Mar-Pol ABS EX4 ABS, Sheet Extrusion. Machined parts take the properties of the stock they are cut from.
| Property | Value |
|---|---|
| Density | 1.03 g/cm³ |
| Tensile strength | 28.0 MPa |
| Yield strength | 39.0 MPa |
| Elongation at break | 31.6 % |
| Modulus of elasticity | 2.03 GPa |
| Heat deflection temp. @ 1.8 MPa | 80 °C |
Typical Applications
- Enclosures and covers
- Prototype housings
- Display and fixture parts
- Low-load mechanical parts
Machining Notes
Low heat deflection (about 80 °C); keep coolant and feeds moderate to avoid melting. If you need black ABS or PC instead, say so in the part notes.
